“The loveliest home that ever was.”—Mark Twain

The Mark Twain House & Museum, just about two miles from the Trinity College campus, showcases the restored 25-room, 11,500-square-foot home where the prolific author and humorist lived with his family from 1874 to 1891. During this time, Twain—born Samuel Clemens—wrote some of his most important works, including Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Guided tours of the 1874 house, designated a National Historic Landmark, are available daily (except for a handful of holidays), with reservations encouraged. Living history tours also are offered, providing an immersive experience in the Clemens household. While on-site, visitors also may explore two exhibition spaces and enjoy the Nook Farm Café and museum shop. In addition, The Mark Twain House & Museum offers numerous educational resources and programs for all ages, as well as contests and specialty tours, including the popular seasonal ghost tours and “Clue” tours.
